Sacred Heart University was founded in 1963 by the Most Reverend Walter W. Curtis, Bishop of the Diocese of Bridgeport.  The major goal of the university is to provide the community with the affordable, quality education at a local Catholic university.

Four colleges are included in the University: College of Arts & Sciences, John F. Welch College of Business, College of Education and Health Professions, and University College.  University College is created to meet the needs of the adult learners and offers evening, weekend and accelerated courses. All these courses are diverse and relevant to changing lifestyles.

Online Learning at the University
The students at this University are also offered an online learning opportunity which provides them with an Internet-based teaching/learning experience.  All students enrolled in this program will use the Blackboard as the electronic delivery and learning platform for their distance study.  Blackboard is a web-based system the purpose of which is to provide all students with a user-friendly interface with simple point and click access to course content, collaborative work spaces and online resource centers.  It is available  for the students 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and offers an easy information interchange between student and instructor.  The courses are created to give students the opportunity to work both independently and interdependently with  their instructor and with fellow students.

SHU's teacher-student ratio is quite favorable. You can always find your teacher at office hours weekly, and they all have a SHU email address! I still say hi to every teacher I've had since Freshman year. It definitely keeps the motivation up when you know your teacher cares about your personal progress.

The classes are fair. I've found that hard work always pays off. If you don't put the work in, the results might not be satisfactory. If you do, it shows. That's a pretty decent deal :-)

Most of the professors are very willing to know their students on a personal basis. It is very comforting that you are giving the ability to meet with you professor during the day, or call their house at night if you have any questions. They don't try and hold themselves to a higher standard.

Excellent school, excellent people. This school has come so far in the last 5-10 years that its totally remarkable. This school is on its way to greatness, look at all the endorsements and recognition Sacred Heart has received in the last few years. None of these are current or relevant and one must keep in mind that students that post on a review site are either really happy with Sacred Heart or really upset with Sacred Heart. Keep in mind: you need to visit this school and really consider your options before signing up for anything. I've done really well here and had a lot of fun but the final decision is really up to you.
