Rowan University's small-town, tree-lined campus is located in Glassboro, New Jersey. The school was founded in 1923 as Glassboro Normal School with the mission to train public school teachers. It was renamed Rowan College of New Jersey in 1992. And finally it became Rowan University in 1997 when it achieved university status.
Rowan University has just under 10,000 students doing classwork in 36 bachelor's degree programs, seven teacher certificate programs, 26 master's degree programs and the college also offers a doctoral degree in educational leadership. Among the students enrolled at the New Jersey campus or online distance learning program, 89 percent are studying for bachelor's or undergraduate degrees and 11 percent are studying for master's degrees. Also the Rowan University study abroad program offers international study in more than 50 countries. The school has more than 100 clubs and organizations for students.
