About Imperial College The University of London is a federation of 19 colleges and 9 institutions, teaching over 125,000 students annually.
Imperial College London is an independent constituent part of London University. The academic and research staff number over 2,700 and the College has about 10,000 students, one-third of whom are postgraduate. The College has an outstanding reputation based on the quality of its research and teaching. Eighteen Nobel Laureates have been members of the College.
The DLP originated at Wye College in 1988. Since then we have added an increasing number of degrees specifically prepared for distance learning students. In August 2000, Wye College merged with Imperial College London. The majority of the distance learning degrees are run from the Wye campus Opens in new window. In addition, a distance learning MSc in Drugs and Alcohol: Policy and Intervention has been run for several years by the Department of Social Science and Medicine. The Tanaka Business School has run a distance learning MBA since 2002, with administrative and service support from the DLP staff at Wye.
The provision of quality postgraduate distance learning programmes at Imperial College, in partnership with the University of London, continues to expand and we hope to report further developments for 2007.
The DLP gratefully acknowledges the help and support of a number of generous donors, including the Higher Education Funding Council, University of London External Programme, Ford Foundation, Rockefeller Foundation, Linbury Trust, Department for International Development (UK), Department of the Environment (UK), the European Union, Band Aid, the Association of Commonwealth Universities and the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission.
