About Briercrest Bible College Briercrest Family of Schools is a Christian educational organization consisting of three schools: Briercrest College, Briercrest Seminary, and Caronport High School. We also operate a large distance learning program. Briercrest Family of Schools provides Bible based education enabling Christ-like integrity in life, thought, and service.
The origin of Briercrest Family of Schools can be traced back to 1920 when Mrs. Walter Hillson began a Bible study in the home of a shut-in woman in the town of Briercrest. The study grew, attracting many families and young people. Bible conferences became common on the lawn of Mr. and Mrs. Whittaker’s home. Then, in 1935, Sinclair Whittaker invited 23-year-old Henry Hildebrand to lead the newly formed Briercrest Gospel Assembly. That same year, on October 19, Briercrest Bible Institute was founded.
The school grew rapidly, from 11 students in 1935 to 110 in 1940. Expectations for enrollment were high when the war ended, and the need for improved facilities was acute. In 1946, through the impetus of Sinclair Whittaker, BBI purchased ‘Caron Airbase’. The price, $50,000, was only five percent of the facility’s true value at the time.
Caronport High School 1946 Caronport High School also began in 1946, with an official enrollment of 60 students. The first principal was Mr. Jake Neufeld. Briercrest Bible Institute became Briercrest Bible College in 1982 and Briercrest College in 2004. A summer graduate school was launched in 1983 that would become Briercrest Seminary. The Henry Budd Seminary Wing was built in 1998.
